Trash talking? You bet. Good-natured ribbing? Absolutely. A healthy competition? Excuse me, a free, healthy competition? Wouldn’t have it any other way, especially since “healthy” is the primary focus of EVEXIAS’ Wellness @ Work Challenge.

Evexias’ 12-week Wellness @ Work Challenge began in Rockwall in May of 2017 and featured a minimum of three employees from these companies and organizations: Rockwall Chamber of Commerce, Rockwall Police Department, City of Rockwall, Rockwall County, Housewarmers, Ebby Halliday Realtors, Baylor Scott & White Lake Pointe, and Straughan Team.

When Rockwall Police Department Officer, Colt Church, learned about the challenge from the Rockwall Chamber of Commerce, his response was a no-brainer. At 6’5” and 275 pounds, Officer Church knew that if he was going to have a chance of becoming a member of SWAT, he would need to get into better shape. And by shedding the extra weight, he would be able to participate in the December 10th Santa Cops 4 Kids in Rockwall, benefiting Child Advocacy Center for Rockwall County.

Throughout the program, Officer Church, his eight teammates and the rival teams were educated by EVEXIAS practitioners on health, wellness, disease-prevention, weight management, nutrition and various health related topics. EVEXIAS accompanied each competitor on their journey to wellness, setting high standards to keep them on track in achieving their personal wellness goals.

Winning teams were determined by loss of body fat, weight, and inches off their waist. As a reward, overall winners received EVEXIAS’ customized “Look and Feel Good” packages valued at more than $1,000.

After meeting with the EVEXIAS staff, Officer Church – whose extensive late night weekend shifts posed a fair share of health obstacles – began a regime of smoothies (strawberry, blueberry, kale and spinach) for breakfast and then chicken, fish and vegetables for lunch and dinner. In addition to eating healthy, Officer Church also extended his exercises by doing burpees, situps, pushups, walking and sprinting.

For Officer Church and his competitors, the challenge certainly lived up to the name, but it also changed how they view leading a healthy lifestyle for the better. The 100 percent free program included:

  • Lunch & Learn: one lunch meeting at program start and one or two lunches during the challenge to answer questions, provide inspiration and insights
  • Weekly educational and motivational emails
  • The Book “A Course in Weight Loss: 21 Spiritual Lessons for Surrendering Your Weight Forever”
  • Body Composition Assessment (BCA); Weekly Weigh-Ins; Vitals; Measurements Symptom Checklist; and Detox Questionnaire
  • Food Journaling
  • Consultation

After 12 rigorous weeks, the Rockwall Police Department found themselves victorious, with Officer Church losing a total of 18 pounds! More importantly, Officer Church felt much healthier than he had prior to starting the competition and had a more positive outlook on life –  something all of the work challenge participants related to.
